I-ROC
|
This rocket was built a
while ago just for fun. I expected to fly it on I211's and maybe
an I284 once in a while, but it's diet has been a lot of Kosdon motors
and some experimental stuff. Just as cool. It is a very
durable kit and has survived one zipper. Keep reading to learn
more about this rocket. |

Flight #5
This was our second Kosdon motor. The J280 is a great motor with plenty
of lifting power. Unfortunately, Frank likes his delays to be 2 seconds
long. This one was more like 15 seconds too long. The boost was
awesome- huge orange flame trailed the rocket up with a slight weathercock to
the west. The rocket arched over, and arched, and came down, and kept
heading down and down and down, just like my stomach. Finally, the chute
popped out and blossomed; the rocket held together thankfully. Everything
looked fine until I walked up to it and found a huge zipper torn in the side of
the rocket from the Kevlar attachment. Lovely. A little glass,
epoxy, and paint and we were back in business.
Flight #6
Dubbed the 'Revenge of the I-ROC' flight, this was the exact same combo that
caused the rocket to zipper terribly last time it was flown. After some
ignition troubles, the J280 kicked the rocket in the butt and it zoomed out of
here on a beautiful orange flame. It arced over at apogee, barely visible,
and popped the chute right on time. After a long walk, we had the rocket
back in hand. A perfect flight.
Flight #8
| This was a nice flight on Kosdon's Dirty Harry
propellant. A slow boost was accompanied with a nice mushroom
cloud of smoke around the launch pad. At apogee, the ALTACC charge
went off, but wasn't enough to push out the R7C. At about 1000
feet, the motor charge went off and cleared the chute out of the
tube. Phew! |

A dramatic
liftoff...

...and a dramatic recovery.
